Continental Championships occur once every two years and bring together the best athletes from all member national associations belonging to the concerned Continental Union who fiercely compete for a spot at the podium at this prestigious event. Continental championships come second in line - in terms of difficulty, recognition, and ranking points awarded - straight after the World Championships.
The scale of participation in the Asian Championship this year was huge with over 600 registered athletes from 30 different countries. The achievement has been well covered in local as well as Arab media as it is the first time an Arab female reaches the Asian podium.
