CPISP Scholar Nawaf Yahya Noorudin, a Drama major at New York University, took part in an open-mic event and was chosen as one of two participants who will join other hopefuls in a final “All Stars Open-Mic” round taking place in the Metropolitan Room later this year.
Nawaf performed “Proud of Your Boy” from the movie Aladdin, and was crowned the event’s male “Future of Broadway” by a casting associate/director. The event kicked off a series of open-mic nights hosted by Broadway Artist Connection (BAC), which aims to connect Broadway artists with aspiring singers and performers.
The Broadway Artists & Friends Open Mic nights include performances by various Broadway artists, after which the stage is opened to the public and one male and one female “Future of Broadway” singers are selected to perform at the final All Stars round to compete for a cash prize.
“I honestly wasn't expecting to get selected, because my contenders gave powerful performances. But when the casting associate called out my name, I felt so lucky. The feeling you get when professionals see potential in you is truly refreshing. This achievement has helped me believe in my abilities and my capability to, one day, make it to the Broadway stage; one step at a time.”
